No Agreement Yet On New Uses For Mid-Huron Land Fill

The future of the Mid-Huron Land Fill Site has not been determined yet.

Goderich, Central Huron and Huron East are considering a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to use the Mid-Huron site as a recycling station when it reaches capacity as a land fill site.  That's expected to happen early next year.

The MoU calls for the site to be used as a recycling depot, but not accept any garbage even if the intention is to transfer that waste to another site.

Central Huron Mayor Jim Ginn says he's received a letter from Huron East expressing reservations about the limits proposed in the MoU, so the municipalities will meet again to clarify the issues.

Goderich CAO Larry McCabe says they looked at the possibility of using the Mid-Huron site as a transfer station, but concluded the tonnage they would receive did not justify the cost
