A team from Goderich District Collegiate Institute took top honours in this years Huron Perth Envirothon competition.
Central Huron Secondary School came second and the B team from St. Anne's in Clinton took third.
The event was held at the Windmill Lake Wake and Eco Park, near Bayfield.
Ausable Bayfield Conservation Educator Melissa Prout explains 12 teams from seven different schools took part in Friday's competition.
The teams competed in a variety of challenges in Soils, Wildlife, Aquatics and Forestry.
The final challenge was a presentation on how to design an outreach and monitoring project for invasive species to a panel of judges and the project had to be specific to the Windmill Lake and Eco Park area.
Prout adds yesterday's competition was a regional event so the GDCI team now advances to the provincial competition at the end of May and if they're successful there they advance to the North American Envirothon.
Both the Provincial and the North American events are being held at Fleming College and Trent University in Peterborough.
Prout adds the Envirothon could not be held without their local partners. More information about the competition and the local sponsors can be found on the ABCA web site.
