While the national unemployment rate for April remained unchanged at 7.1 per cent, the Stratford-to-Bruce Peninsula economic region reports a drop in the employment level from 6.3% to 6.2% last month.
While part-time employment stayed the same at 32,200, full-time employment losses of 2,000, accounted for the employment number dropping.
Accommodation and food services saw the highest gain in employment. Utilities saw a second monthly gain, but that was offset by losses in agriculture and construction.
In the first quarter Hiring Trends report covering January to March for Bruce, Grey, Huron and Perth counties, the region saw a total of 1,897 job postings, with Perth County seeing the most job postings.
