Bruce Power Outage

The Bruce Power site will be busy this month as the company begins a large outage.

Vice President of Corporate Affairs James Scongack says all four units at the Bruce-A station are coming offline for a planned station containment outage that is scheduled to begin on Friday.

He says they are planning to perform maintenance on common systems that the reactors require to run, so it's necessary to take them all offline to do the work, pointing out they will also continue the regular maintenance program at the Bruce-B station at the same time.

Scongack says the spring is a good time for a large outage.

"We select this time of year for this kind of outage because demand is very, very low as you can imagine, there's no air conditioning load and there's no heating load," says Scongack. "So the goal is to have this outage wrapped up and completed for the summer demand."

Scongack says an additional 1,000 to 1,500 workers will be needed to complete the work.
