Wellington County is receiving over $215,000. from the Ontario Green Investment Fund for Electric vehicle charging stations.
The stations will be located at the Arthur Library, the Puslinch Library, and the Social Services Office in Guelph.
They'll be level 3, or direct current Fast Chargers, with a 480 volt system that can charge a vehicle to 80 per cent in about 30 minutes. That's 8 times faster than level 2 stations.
The province is investing $20 million to build a network of charging stations across Ontario.
Over the next year, about 200 level 3 and 300 level 2 stations will be installed at 250 locations.
“The County is pleased to be working with the Government of Ontario to expand the infrastructure to accommodate electric vehicle charging stations in three locations in Wellington County” said Warden George Bridge. “I would like to thank the Province for this funding. I know these charging stations will be actively used by residents and visitors to the County.”
He says The County of Wellington continues to be a leader in environmental sustainability and excellence. The County’s environmentally responsible efforts have been recognized by the United Nations. Since 2004, over 2 million trees have been planted in the County under the Green Legacy Tree Planting Programme, and County facility construction projects adhere to the Green Legacy Building Standards.
Meantime, Wellington North has also secured funding from the province to install charging stations, with one approved in Arthur, and one in Mount Forest. Siting details are still being worked out. Wellington North Mayor Andy Lennox says the stations may be an attraction to getting people to stop and shop in Wellington North.
