Bayfield Community Rallies To Help Restaurant Owner

The co-owner of the Renegades Restaurant at the south end of Bayfield hopes to be able to re-open in about three weeks.

But Wayne McDougall says it would not be possible without the auction the business community of Bayfield put together to raise money for them.  The restaurant was flooded when lightning knocked out the control panel of a pumping station in Bayfield at the end of March.

So members of the business community, including every restaurant in Bayfield and a few outside of Bayfield, held an auction and a day of entertainment on April 16th.

McDougall says just every business in the village helped out in one way or another, and four bands and some skateboarders performed for free.

They were able to raise enough money to make up the difference between the cost for the damage and the insurance, and he hopes to open in about three weeks.

The convenience store beside the restaurant has been able to remain open.
