MPP Says Too Many Grey-Bruce Residents Don't Have A Doctor

Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker says provincial health funding cuts are hurting vulnerable residents.

Walker says 1,343 constituents are looking for a doctor in Grey Bruce, and over 800,000 Ontarians are without a family physician.

Walker blames scandal, waste and mismanagement for the continued cuts.  He says it's time the government invests in frontline health care workers, and makes the health of residents a top priority.

He says each cut translates in extra days of waiting for patients to see their doctor, an extra month waiting for essential surgery, or months waiting for a nursing bed.

In a letter to the editor, Walker says we’ve seen the Wynne Liberals cut $815-million from physician services, $50-million from seniors’ physiotherapy services, $20-million from the assistive devices program, and 50 medical residency positions.

He says the Government cut more than 2,000 children with autism from the Intensive Behavioural Intervention (IBI) therapy waitlist, the only treatment that is statistically effective at improving the development of autistic children.

Walker adds Delisting has been extensive under this Government, beginning in 2004 with eye exams, physiotherapy, chiropractic care, and most recently, they quietly cut funding for test strips that diabetics use to monitor their blood sugar levels.
