Goderich council approved a 2016 draft budget last night.
Treasurer Judy Kay explains they started out several months ago hoping to cut one million dollars from their starting figure. They are still about 189-thousand dollars short of that goal.
The figure they approved is a consolidated increase of 2.4 per cent. If that 2.4 per cent increase is ratified at the May council meeting, Kay says that mean an average assessment would go up by 80 dollars over last year.
Kay adds they're also anticipating a surplus of about 460-thousand dollars, and half of that will be put into contingency reserves and the other half would offset the unfunded 189-thousand dollars.
The budget still has to be ratified at the May 9th meeting of Goderich council.
