Celebrating 50 Years in Perth County

Perth County residents are being invited to a number of special events this spring and summer as the Perth District Health Unit celebrates it's 50th anniversary.

This week the Health Unit unveiled its 50th anniversary logo which will be used on its website and on all communication materials throughout the year.

The main Anniversary Celebration is scheduled for Sunday, June 26th.  It will be at the Health Unit building on West Gore Street in Stratford.

The afternoon event will showcase the work of public health in Perth County since 1966.  It's open to the community, families, stakeholders, partners, and other agencies.  The celebration will include speeches from dignitaries and past leaders, live music, food, and activities for all ages.

A history exhibit of "50 Years of Public Health in Perth County" is being created with the help of a public history student from the University of Waterloo.  It will feature a series of posters with a historical timeline of achievements.  That exhibit will be at the anniversary celebration. A digital version of the timeline will also be posted on the health unit website.

"We are very proud of the achievements of our public health unit over the past 50 years," says Dr. Miriam, Klassen, Medical Officer of Health. "We look forward to celebrating with our residents and our staff."
