With nice weather in the forecast this weekend, there's no doubt about it -- it's a great time to be outdoors.
For many, it's a perfect weekend to light an outdoor fire whether for recreation or for removal of yard brush, However, fire officials are sending out a reminder to take the necessary precautions and do it safely.
"Our big concern is unattended burns and burns that are too close to any structures. The last thing that we want to do this weekend, and we certainly have a lot of chores to do around our properties, the last thing we want to do is be out putting out careless, unattended fires," says James Marshall, community fire safety officer for North Huron and Morris-Turnberry.
Residents are reminded to check with their local municipality for fire regulations as some do differ from region to region.
Marshall says firefighters have already had to deal with a few fires so far this spring.
"Aside from some of the wet spots out there in the fields, the grass is fairly dry," adds Marshall.
Fire officials are asking that anyone out burning a fire this weekend to follow local municipal by-laws for the area where the burning is taking place.
