UPDATE: Flooding South Of Chatsworth

Updated at 4:15pm:

Emergency personnel, including Grey County OPP, the Chatsworth Fire Department and the Township of Chatsworth Roads Department, continue to monitor the flooding situation in Williamsford and the surrounding areas.

The Mayor of Chatsworth has declared a State of Emergency. Eight homes were evacuated today and properties in low lying areas around McCullough Lake are at risk. McCullough Lake Drive is under water. Residents are asked to evacuate the area as a safety precaution.

Bob Elliot, a long time Williamsford resident has never seen flooding like this.

"There's one house down Orr St., they had to leave because the water's above the windows," says Elliot. "Another one was surrounded by water and a lady couldn't get out. The fire department took a boat to get them out."

The Williamsford Community Centre is serving as an evacuation centre for those affected.

Hwy. 6 between Chatsworth Sideroad 5 and Chatsworth Rd. 24 remains closed. Several secondary roads throughout the township, particularly in the former Holland Twp., are also closed due to high water levels.

There have been no injuries reported and there are no safety concerns at this time.

Updated at 10:50am:

People are being evacuated from homes in the village of Williamsford, which is south of Chatsworth.

Several homes are being evacuated because of the rising water. And a section of Hwy. 6 is closed between Sideroad 5 to Chatsworth Rd. 24. That stretch of highway runs from the middle of Williamsford north.

Hydro has been shut off in the area as a safety precaution and the Williamsford Community Centre has been opened as an evacuation centre for those affected by the flood.

OPP officers and Fire Department personnel are currently in the McCullough Lake area West of Williamsford conducting a door to door canvass as this area is also affected by the flooding.
