Minto Sets 2016 Budget And is Awarded For Harriston Main Street Project

Minto has approved a 4.9 per cent tax increase for municipal purposes for 2016.

However, when combined with lower increases by the county and school boards, the combined increase is expected to be closer to 2.9 per cent; or $84 extra on a home valued at $202,000.

The budget includes some $7.2 million in capital work and $1.4 million in new borrowing.

Meanwhile, Minto is enjoying a prestigious award from the Economic Developers Council of Ontario.

The award is in recognition of a successful public-private partnership on last year’s reconstruction of most of Harriston’s main street.

Minto Mayor George Bridge congratulated Economic Development Manager Belinda Wick-Graham with being "the glue that held the whole project together."

Wick-Graham said there was amazing cooperation from business owners, the public, the contractor, municipal staff, council and others.
