Central Huron is now accepting applications to fill a vacancy on council.
First-term councillor Genny Smith has resigned to take advantage of a business opportunity that would not allow her the time that the council position also required.
Mayor Jim Ginn says council had three options; call a by-election, appoint a new councillor, or advertise for candidates and make a selection from those applications.
Ginn points out a by-election is almost as expensive as a regular election, so council decided to go with the third option and is now accepting applications for the vacant seat on Central Huron council.
Applications can be made in person at the town hall in Clinton no later than April 18th.
