Temporary Repairs Made to Bayfield Sewage System

Bayfield residents have been given the 'ok' to resume normal water and sanitary uses.

Sewage pumps at the Bayfield Main Lift Station failed early Monday, due to a suspected lightning strike. The Station began to bypass sewage. Vac Trucks were brought in to help reduce the volume of sewage being released into the environment.

The Ontario Clean Water Agency, along with assistance from Hydro One, was able to get the two of the three sewage pumps running temporarily. The sewage flows into the Lift Station are slowing down and OCWA continues to work on the problem.

While there is no estimated time for complete restoration of the Bayfield Main Lift Station, residents can resume normal water and sanitary usage.

Bluewater Mayor Tyler Hessel says Bayfield residents might be asked to conserve water again, if there was another heavy rainfall in the next few days.
