Perth Health Officials Warn Spring Melt Can Contaminate Wells

The Perth County Health Unit is reminding residents to test their wells soon.

Public Health Inspector Jennette Kidnie says the melting snow and spring runoff can contaminate well water with bacteria, which can affect your health.

Kidnie adds that a lot of people think their well water is fine, but the quality can actually change frequently.

Private well owners in the county can pick up free water bacteria testing kits at local municipal offices, Listowel Memorial Hospital, and the Perth District Health Unit.

You can also have your water tested for chemicals for a fee through a private lab.

The Perth Health Unit can help you figure out what to do if you have a poor test result for your water.
