Huron County Hiring Consultant to Develop Funding Model

Huron County councillors have agreed to spend a little more money to make their case to the Province that reductions in funding are having a negative impact in rural Ontario.

C-A-O Brenda Orchard explains the response from Finance Ministry staff during discussions at the recent Good Roads Conference was that they didn't believe the county's model was correct, but they did agree to further discussions.

Orchard adds the Province's position was that changes to the funding model benefits all municipalities. But Orchard points out it may benefit urban municipalities but there is no benefit to rural Ontario.

County councillors felt it was important to spend a little more money on a consultant to come up with a model the Province can accept, because otherwise they won't believe the numbers. Orchard adds it's the only way to educate them about the impact of their funding in rural Ontario.
