Update: Police Search Ramping Up for Missing Southampton Man

Police are once again ramping up their efforts in the search for 53-year-old Jim Armstrong, reported missing in Southampton late last week.

The OPP Crime Unit and Emergency Response Team is now joining Saugeen Shores Police and will be conducting searches in backyards, vacant and seasonal properties throughout the Southampton area.

The OPP Helicopter will also search the shoreline of Lake Huron once the weather is suitable to do so.

While a number of leads and tips have come in, Saugeen Shores Police Chief Dan Rivett says they're looking for any help they can get to locate 53-year-old "Jim" Peter James Armstrong.

"We had information from somebody who said 'I know I saw that person' and that was at the Walmart in Hanover, says Rivett. "We continue to work with the OPP and Hanover Police and ourselves to follow up every single little lead we can."

It's believed that Mr. Armstrong may have been seen boarding a CAN-AR Bus around 7am on Thursday morning outside of Ralph's Highway Shopette in Port Elgin and then possibly dropped off in Walkerton just after 8am.

He is described as being 5'9" tall, 160 lbs, with red curly hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing only pajama pants, and no foot wear.

Police say Armstrong suffers from a mental health disorder and epilepsy. He also wears a medical brace on his right hand.

Armstrong is from Toronto and was visiting a relative in Southampton.

Residents are asked to look around their properties.

Call the Saugeen Shores Police Service at (519) 832-2500 if you have information regarding the whereabouts of "Jim" Peter James Armstrong or information surrounding his disappearance.
