The Mayor of St. Mary's disagrees with the the CEO of Green Arc Tire, who says the future of the planned tire recycling facility is uncertain due to politics.
Green Arc CEO Mike DiCenzo blames political delays for forcing the company to review plans for 340 new jobs
He adds, "Green Arc’s private investors chose St. Marys to create jobs and showcase environmental leadership through tire reuse. The reality is that all of the best intentions and incredible community support are not enough when a company is at the centre of political posturing. Sadly, it’s an entire community that pays the price."
However, St. Marys Mayor Al Strathdee says he tried to fairly represent the interests of both residents and industry to resolve all concerns .
"When issues are raised by either group, I believe it is my job to ensure that those concerns are heard. I also believe that it is my job to try and bring all those affected together to work collaboratively in an effort to find a common resolution. It is unfortunate that this vision of the Mayor’s office is not always shared by those involved," he says.
He adds St. Marys is open for business, and is a desirable location to locate to.
He adds, "Most importantly, we have an excellent local workforce with a strong work ethic and ability to adapt to the demands of today’s global economy. We will continue to grow the relationships with our current industrial partners, and we look forward to building new partnerships into the future.”
And MPP Randy Pettapiece says he has been working with the mayor to ensure the project moves forward.
He says, "I have been nothing but supportive of new business and new jobs in our area. Any suggestion to the contrary is false. I should also note that Mr. DiCenzo has never contacted me for assistance on any provincial matter concerning Green Arc. At the same time, I have consistently supported the Town of St. Marys, and have worked to ensure the provincial government addresses all outstanding concerns surrounding Green Arc’s proposed operations."
The company says the building they wanted to lease for the operation is now for sale due to the uncertainty.
