Southgate Hears Concerns About Recording Council Meetings

Two local residents urged Southgate not to allow the general public to video record council meetings.

During an open forum prior to the regular council meeting, one man predicts it would be a "free-for-all, haphazard" event if the public took their video recorders to council meetings.

Another resident, Karl Chitka, predicts unfettered video recording by the public would be "disruptive" to council business.

But Southgate Mayor Anna-Marie Fosbrooke says the public should be allowed to record, while Southgate staff work out the logistics of doing its own recording.

During the regular meeting, council decided against allowing the public to video council meetings, at least until the municipality starts videotaping its own meetings.

Fosbrooke added there needs to be direction to have the recordings put on the municipal website.
