Energy Critic Opposes Provincial Cap And Trade System

A vocal critic of Ontario's Energy policies tells BlackburnNews.com the proposed cap and trade system that is expected to be introduced in today's provincial budget is just a new tax under a different name.

Financial Post Contributor Parker Gallant says it's also not necessary because there are very few emissions in Ontario's electricity sector. He says the bulk of emissions come from over a dozen natural gas plants built to back up the green energy system.

He says while the gas plants are spewing emissions, we're paying to spill clean hydro, and let turbines spin out unneeded power.

A Financial Post contributor and self styled energy watchdog tells BlackburnNews.com a cap and trade system for emissions is basically just another tax.

Parker Gallant says the bulk of Ontario's emissions come from over a dozen new natural gas plants built to back up unreliable green energy sources. He says natural gas users will pay more under the proposed system.

"People that thought they were smart by switching from electric baseboard heaters, spending a lot of money to put venting in and install a gas furnace are suddenly gonna get dinged because she's putting in the cap and trade." says Gallant.

He says while 31 gas plants are spewing emissions, we're paying to spill clean hydro, and let turbines spin out unneeded power.
