Bank Investigator Scam Hits Grey County

Grey County OPP are warning residents about another scam making the rounds throughout the area.

The bank investigator scam involves a person calling potential victims, asking them to help catch a bank employee who's been stealing money. The victim is asked to go their bank, take out money and not let the teller know, as they may be involved in the scam.

The victim then hands the money over to a "bank investigator" who pockets the cash.

In some cases the victim is also asked to hand over cash they may have at home as it could be counterfeit.

A Meaford resident fell for a similar scam back in February of 2012 when she turned over more than $4,000 to a scammer calling himself Mr. Gammon of the Scotia Bank.

If you feel you may subject to or victim of this or any other type of financial scam, call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at www.antifraudcentre.ca or toll free 1-888-495-8501
