OPP Drive Message Home About Online Safety

Tuesday was International Safer Internet Day and police want you to THINK before you send.

With today's advanced technology, especially smart phones, younger generations are connected even more than ever.

Huron County OPP Constable, Jamie Stanley, says being aware of your actions and thinking before you say or do something you may later come to regret is very important, especially in today's technologically advanced age.

The Ontario Provincial Police Safer Internet Day initiative is based around the acronym T.H.I.N.K.

"Is the message truthful, is the message hurtful in any way, is the message illegal in any manner, is it even necessary to even comment and lastly is the message kind?," says Stanley.

Constable Stanley adds once you hit send and a picture or a message is out there, then it's out there for good.

He adds education and awareness is very important for youngsters as many young school children have their own cell phones and can access the internet very easily and quickly.
