Sauble Town Square Project Gets Boost From 'Friends'

The 'Friends of Sauble Beach' group is challenging local businesses and groups to get behind the proposed Sauble Town Square project.

Friends of Sauble Beach Chair Kathy Strachan started things off today by announcing a donation of $1,000.

The Town Square concept is an amphitheatre and special events venue between Lakeshore Boulevard North and Second Avenue North in Sauble's downtown area.   The goal is to minimize the physical impact of special events on the beach.

Friends of Sauble Beach is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of the fragile beach and dune system. They are attempting to do that through education and the provision of accessible boardwalks and viewing platforms along the north beach that have minimal impact on the dunes.

"This project has been in the discussion stages for several years now,” said Kathy Strachan, "and we agree with the Mayor that now is the time to get on with it.   We had another successful Fish Fry this past summer and our Directors felt we should use part of the proceeds to initiate fundraising for the Square."
