Hanover Sees Nearly $12 Million Worth of New Construction

Construction activity in Hanover increased by $5 million in 2015 to reach a total of $11.9 million worth of new building in town.

Chief Building Official Don Tedford attributed the increase to the town's many commercial, industrial, and institutional developments.

This includes transforming the former Zellers store into a Giant Tiger and Dollarama, the renovations underway at Hanover and District Hospital, and the installation of solar panels.

The value of residential renovations and repairs also increased by more than 105% from 2014.

With 118 building permits issued last year, Tedford is optimistic the trend will continue as more construction opportunities will arise in 2016.

These opportunities involve building more townhouse-type residential units, single detached dwelling units and awaiting the approval of 4 subdivisions.
