Huron County councillors will discuss the advantages of consolidating the county's office space into one new building. They currently have staff in four separate buildings.
CAO Brenda Orchard explains the Jacob Memorial building in Clinton was originally designed as a seniors home, rather than an office building. She the building is not energy efficient and does not have enough space.
Orchard points out there are many advantages to having staff in one building as well as the savings in travel time between buildings.
One recommendation to county council during budget deliberations is to hire a consultant to make sure they have accurate estimates of things like energy costs in one building, compared to the current costs in four buildings.
