Ice Jam on Nine Mile River at Port Albert

A Flood Warning has been issued for a section of Port Albert.

The combination of cold temperatures, high winds, and open water caused the formation of a frazil ice jam at Port Albert.

The Nine Mile River is backing up behind the frazil ice, resulting in rising water levels.

Central Syndenham Street is flooded and the road has been closed.   Residents are reminded not to attempt to drive or walk through the flooded area.

Equipment is being brought in today to manage the ice and reduce the flooding.

The Maitland Valley Conservation Authority is monitoring the situation and is consulting with staff of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh.
