Snowy Weather Keeps Police Busy in Midwestern Ontario

Today's wintry weather kept OPP very busy on the roads.

A fatal accident has closed a road in Perth County. Line 20 is shutdown between Highway 23 to Plugtown Line Road.

Huron County OPP remind motorists to adjust their driving according to weather and road conditions.

They responded to a crash on Highway 86 in Molesworth this morning.

Police say an oncoming vehicle ended up hitting a transport truck, after trying to avoid a Jeep Wrangler making a careless pass on an icy section.

The female in the oncoming car received minor injuries, while a 48 year old Listowel man was charged with careless driving.

OPP responded to several collision in the past 24 hours, including 3 on Highway 21 between Kingsbridge and Amberley.

Some snowsqualls continue to blow into the region off lake Huron between Kincardine and Sauble Beach.

Police say you should postpone any unnecessary travel when conditions are poor.
If you must travel, do so safely by adjusting your driving habits.

Allow extra time to travel to and from your destination. Slow down and adjust your driving to the current road and weather conditions. Leave extra space when following vehicles as the stopping distances will be more than double on snow covered and icy roads. Activate your full set of headlights during winter travel. Remember, daytime running lights do not engage your rear tail lights, making it difficult for drivers behind you to see your vehicle. Stay alert, focus on the road and avoid any sudden braking, accelerating or steering. The leading cause of collisions that occur during winter months is poor driving, not poor driving conditions. Slow down, stay alert and stay in control. Following these three simple steps will go a long way in reducing the number of winter-related collisions on our Huron County roads.
