No Decision On Howson Dam Fix In Wingham

The state of the Howson Dam is Wingham is back on North Huron's table.

The last time the 150-year old dam saw any significant repair was over 30 years ago. Any current work could cost upwards of $450,000.

Council's been asked to create a committee to focus on tackling the issue of repairing the dam. But Reeve Neil Vincent says the township can't keep everything that's old and when it comes down can the township afford it.

“We can’t keep everything that’s old, we’re learning that. But it’s something we want to look into, and there is a lot of things to consider based on what the budget is. That is the real question. Can we afford it?”

Vincent adds any plan has to fit into the capital management plan.

Council did not make a decision to form a dedicated committee to look at the future of the Howson Dam but will re-visit the issue during a future meeting.
