The Mayor of South Huron says one of the major achievements for her municipality last year was getting a final cost figure for the Grand Bend Sewage Treatment Plant project with Lambton Shores and she says that should be completed by the end of March.
Maureen Cole says they've been working on the project for a few years now and should give them capacity for development for the next several years. Council also completed its Procedural Bylaw and an Economic Development Strategic Plan.
Cole adds one of the challenges in 2016 will be recruiting and retaining workers to fill the jobs that business expansion will create. Cole points out business owners are ready to build but they just don't have the people.
Cole adds the other big project for this year will be updating their recreational facilities, including a new indoor swimming pool.
Cole says they heard very clearly from residents they want improvements in recreational facilities and the new indoor pool in particular is going to mean a lot of fund-raising.
