Major Community Fundraiser Launching in Wingham

A fundraising project for playground equipment for the elementary school in Wingham has mushroomed into a major community initiative.

It's called the Building Bridges to Our Community fundraising campaign. An announcement and public meeting is scheduled for later this month.

The campaign involves new playground equipment at Maitland River Elementary School, along with environmental learning grounds at the school, and a refurbished track at F. E. Madill Secondary School.

The playground equipment is the first phase of the multi-year project. The equipment is estimated to cost just under $200 000. The entire project is estimated to cost close to $750,000.

The information session is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17th at the Maitland River Elementary School at 6:00 p.m.

The playground equipment will be fully accessible and available to the public not only during school hours, but in the evenings and weekends.

The environmental gardens can be enjoyed by people of all ages, and the refurbished track at F.E. Madill can be used by walking groups. A lighted field will allow for nighttime soccer matches.

Following the announcement at the June 17th information session, a tour of the playground will be provided, complete with proposed locations for the equipment.

Parents and the public will have a chance to ask questions of administration and members of the Building Bridges committee.
