A Saugeen Shores councillor is looking to kick-start the municipality's recreation master plan.
Don Matheson says he will be tabling a motion that asks for the master plan to undertaken and completed this year, rather than waiting until 2016 as originally planned.
He says Saugeen Shores has under-used facilities and has not updated them in recent years, while neighbouring municipalities have moved ahead with renovations or new builds in that time.
Matheson adds it also makes sense to complete the recreation master plan this year because council has to make a decision on the fate of the Port Elgin Centennial Pool, which is expected to come this summer.
"With the state of our pool and the recreation in town, I believe it's prudent to look at everything all at once, rather than piecemeal. That way, if something is going to be done we can get the best bang for our buck when we do it," says Matheson.
