Bruce Power CEO Looks Forward To Bright New Year

Bruce Power enters the new year with a very bright future, after what they're calling a monumentally successful 2015. The company says it is on track to produce over 30 per cent of the province's power at 30 per cent below the residential price of electricity . Bruce Power claims both A and B stations are among the top-performing plants in the world as they set records for output. Bruce Power President and CEO Duncan Hawthorne says the best part of the year was announcing an early Christmas gift to employees with the long term agreement with the province to refurbish Units 3-8. “It is through their quality work and excellent performance that I was able to demonstrate to the government and our investors that these units are worth the investment. We have a lot of work ahead of us, but I’m confident they will be rewarded for their trust,” adds Hawthorne. The December 3rd announcement called for a multi year $13-Billion dollar investment which will create between 1,500 and 2,500 jobs a year at the site, and 18,000 jobs province wide. Other highlights of the year included a renewed 5 year operating licence, the launch of a new safety website, and the successful distribution of potassium iodide tablets to residents within a 10 km radius. Residents within 50 km received a voucher for the tablets with protect the thyroid from radiation in the unlikely event that it is released from the station.

Bruce Power also launched an Environment and Sustainability Fund, to invest $500,000 annually to projects advancing conservation, restoration and education in Grey, Bruce and Huron Counties.

And 2015 saw Bruce Power open a $25 million, 23,000 square foot fire training facility.
