St. Marys Driver Momentarily Blinded By Laser

Perth County OPP are warning of the dangers of laser pointers after a driver in St. Marys was momentarily blinded by one last night.

Police say the woman was stopped at the lights at Queen Street East at Water Street when a black SUV pulled up behind her.

Two male occupants of the vehicle shone a green laser light into her rear view mirror as she looked in it, temporarily blinding her. The Black SUV continued eastbound on Queen Street.

The driver called police and was urged to seek medical attention for pain behind her eye. Police warn anyone thinking laser are a toy to think again.

In a release police say they could cause a major accident and even permanent eye damage.

Police also say it's a crime to point a laser at an aircraft. Offenders can be charged under the Aeronautics Act and if convicted could face up to $100,000 in fines, 5 years in prison or both.
