The mild weather is having an economic impact at the salt mine in Goderich.
In a release from Compass Minerals, the company states the primary North American service area has a reduced demand for deicing products. That's leading to reduced production at the Goderich mine and laying off 90 people.
The company says it's also seeing weakness in the plant nutrition business and both issues are pushing full-year earnings per share down.
Shares of Compass Minerals are at the low end of the $5.20 to $5.50 per share range.
A fourth-quarter report on snow event data as well as salt segment sales volume results will be released on January 7.
