Wingham Group Hopes To Sponsor Syrian Refugee Family

A newly formed group wants to bring a Syrian refugee family to Wingham, and in order to do so, they'll need some help.

Greg Sherwood, chair of the Wingham and District Refugee Sponsorship Group, says they're looking to bring a minimum of three people to the Wingham area, and up to a maximum of six people.

Sherwood says at the moment, they're coming up with ideas to raise the money in order to get things rolling; after that, they'll be seeking donations to acquire many of the necessities that a family would need to be self-sustaining.

"We'll be actively looking for a place for people to live and then we'll be looking for furniture, we'll be looking for school supplies, clothing, kitchen appliances, everything a house would need," says Sherwood.

The Wingham and District Refugee Sponsorship Group will meet again on January 10, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wingham and it is open to the general public.
