A Joint Protocol for Student Achievement between Midwestern Ontario boards of education and children's services is aimed at supporting crown wards through secondary school.
Superintendent of Education Mike Bethune presented a review of the protocol to the Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board this week.
Bethune says in 2012-2013, 46% of crown wards graduated from high school, compared with an overall provincial average graduation rate of 83%.
The protocol offers guidelines to support children and youth who are in care with the child welfare system through their school career.
Bethune says it sets up best practices and processes to improve student achievement, and allows the agencies and schools to share information.
The protocol was signed by Bruce Grey Child and Family Services, as well as the Huron Perth Children's Aid Society, and the Avon Maitland, Bluewater, Bruce Grey Catholic, and Huron Perth Catholic District School Boards.
