Goderich Council Studies Report On Sharing Services

A staff report on the potential for Goderich to share services with Huron County as well as other lower-tier municipalities has been presented to council.

The report outlines some of the different needs and expectations of urban and rural municipalities within the county, and where there is some potential for sharing and where it would not be practical.

C-A-O Larry McCabe points to things like planning and I-T as well as cost-benefit studies as areas that could be shared with the county, but he also believes things like economic development and emergency management should be left at the local level.

McCabe says there is potential for lower-tier municipalities with common interests to share services, and Goderich is prepared to look at any possibilities.

But he adds there are some clear differences between the needs of the smaller urban centres and the rural communities that make sharing services impractical.
