The Municipality of Bluewater is actually getting an increase in its Ontario Municipal Partnership Funding next year.
Mayor Tyler Hessel says he believes Bluewater is the only municipality in Huron County that's getting an increase. Hessel explains the increase is being called transition funding and they've been told it has nothing to do with the municipality's policing costs. However, the increase in OMPF funding is almost the same as the increase in their policing costs.
Hessel adds they'll take it anywhere they can get it because they need the funding to keep up to date with infrastructure such as roads, water and sewer. He says the increase is for next year only.
Hessel adds Bluewater's policing costs are expected to double over the next four years under the new OPP billing model.
