A new report says Lake Huron beaches met water quality standards more often, and beaches were also tested more often. The 2015 beach report from "The Waterkeeper Swim Guide" looks at water quality on the Great Lakes and compares monitoring results for almost 1500 beaches It found that beaches met quality standards more often on Lake Huron, Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Lake Huron beaches had unacceptable levels of bacteria 8 per cent of the time, while there was no data 14 per cent of the time. The water was good 78 per cent of the time. The beach report also calculates the five most popular beaches on Lake Huron with the Goderich Main Beach at the top of the list. Sauble Beach is 4th, while Grand Bend South was fifth. Wasaga and Port Blake were second and third. Over all the water quality of the Great Lakes met government standards 76.5 per cent of the time in 2015, up from 72.5% the summer before. Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, and the St. Lawrence River beaches met quality standards less often in 2015 than in 2014.
