Perth Wellington's MP is reaching out to the Ministry of Employment to help 214 people affected by the St. Marys Heinz Plant closure.
“I will be contacting newly appointed Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour Mary Ann Mihychuk to ask what she and the new government will do to ensure that these jobs are replaced within the St. Marys community," says MP John Nater. "My staff and I are committed to working with town and federal officials, as well as our provincial partners including Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece. We need to come together and support our neighbours.”
Nater has also been in touch with Kraft Canada Communications spokesman Kathy Murphy to express his profound disappointment over the planned closure.
He says he is deeply saddened for the employees, calling it a devastating loss to the entire community.
Nater says he and his staff will work with St. Marys Mayor Al Strathdee and staff to help the people affected.
Kraft says the St. Marys plant is one of seven plants closing in the next two years.
