Southgate is considering a possible partnership with neighbouring Wellington North to promote a food tourism project.
The idea is to combine Southgate's Horse and Buggy Trail with the Butter Tart Trail of Wellington North.
It could be called the Buggies and Butter Tarts trail, but other municipalities may be invited to join in discussion about expanding the tourism promotion.
Alan Smith will begin his new role with the municipality on July 20.
