Grey County OPP Officers Honoured

Two Grey County OPP officers were honoured with the Commissioner's Citation for Lifesaving award.

Constables Jessica Buchholz and Shawn Hierlihy searched local water falls area after a distraught woman texted her husband a picture of someone going over waterfalls.

They found the woman at the 18 ft high Inglis Falls in Georgian Bluffs. She was sitting on top of a wide barrier wall, holding a utility knife blade, and uttering verbal threats to harm herself.

One officer engaged the woman in conversation, while the other moved into a position behind the woman, and reached out to pull her to safety across the wall.

She was taken to hospital for assessment and treatment.

The citation says the two officers' actions on November 6, 2014, saved the woman's life.

“As the detachment commander for Grey County OPP, I am extremely proud of the officers that have received these awards," says Michael Guilfoyle. "Policing can be a very difficult and challenging career and these awards recognize the selfless acts of courage, determination and professionalism that have been displayed by these officers. The West Region OPP Awards ceremony is only held once a year, however, the professionalism, dedication to duty and compassion that Grey County OPP officers display occurs on a daily basis. I was honoured to attend this awards ceremony and support the officers which recognized their significant achievements and their ongoing commitment to public safety in Grey County."
