The C-E-O for the Huron-Perth Healthcare Alliance is optimistic about what the change in the Federal government will mean for health care.
Andrew Williams explains while the delivery of health care is primarily a Provincial responsibility, the Health Accord between Ottawa and the provinces that's been in place for the last ten years influences that delivery, and Williams states in recent years there has been very limited accountability.
He believes with the new government there will be a much more open dialogue with the provinces on a wide range of key deliverables that respects the federal – provincial partnership.
Williams points out that while the province has the primary responsibility for the delivery of health care services they have a responsibility to do that in partnership with the Federal government to ensure that services are consistent across Canada. That would include things like drug costs, access to care, and seniors care.
