Perth-Wellington MPP Responds To Kraft Heinz Closure

The MPP for Perth-Wellington is calling for support following the announcement that Kraft Heinz will close its St. Marys plant, along with six other factories in the US and Canada.

Upon hearing of the closure, MPP Randy Pettapiece says he has reached out to inform Premier Kathleen Wynne, Minister of Economic Development Brad Duguid, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities Reza Moridi, as well as Patrick Brown, leader of the official opposition.

"I was extremely sad and disappointed to learn today that Kraft Heinz will close its St. Marys facility. This is a huge loss to St. Marys and our entire area," says Pettapiece in statement released Wednesday night. “We think of the 214 employees and their families who will be directly affected. They will need the support of the province and our community."

Pettapiece has asked Minister Moridi to establish an action centre in the community to assist displaced workers, as the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities has done following previous plant closures.

“My staff and I are committed to working with ministry officials, town officials, as well as Perth-Wellington MP John Nater, to do whatever we can to help those affected, he says. “Our neighbours now need our support.”
