Drivers Reminded To Check Lug Nuts After Changing Tires

Police are reminding drivers to double check their lug nuts after two vehicles lost their tires in Georgian Bluffs.

Police say on Monday around 8:54am, a Toyota was travelling west on Hwy. 6 and 21 when the front driver’s side wheel came off. The driver had recently installed snow tires.

Police received a second call at around 2:20pm, after an Acura was made a right turn into a parking lot on Hwy. 6 & 21 and the front passenger wheel came off. There were no injuries reported.

The OPP says it is important to get the lug nuts on tires re-torqued after travelling 100-150 km if snow tires have recently been installed. Loose nuts can become loose due to vibrations while driving. As well, over-tightened nuts can damage bolt threads or break the fasteners.
