Public Comments Wanted For Shoreline Management Plan

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority is looking for public input as part of the update to its Shoreline Management Plan.

Water and Planning Manager Alec Scott explains the first plan was done in 1994, and the next one was done in 2000.

The document was intended to look at the priorities of the people living along the shoreline, with a focus on flooding and erosion and keeping development out of flood and erosion-prone areas.

Scott adds water quality and access to beach were also issues but not the main ones under the Shoreline Management Plan.

The latest update to the plan started in mid-summer with the hiring of consultants for some of the technical issues. They also set up a steering committee of cottage associations and contractors along the shoreline.

They have now turned to the public for more input and they're hoping the process will be completed by next fall. Scott says they've also updated the ABCA web site so people can fill out the survey online.
