Dragon's Den Meaford Selects Winners

A couple who make silver jewelry in their Meaford home emerged as the first place winners in the seventh Annual Dragons Den Meaford contest Wednesday night.

Candice and Michael Ruhl won the most cash from the five Dragons who pledged them almost $4,000. Along with the other contenders, the Ruhl's won business services offered by local banks and other businesses.

Zach Hannam, who makes herbal soaps in his kitchen, came second with cash pledges of about $2,050 from the Dragons. Hannam will use part of that money to rent a commercial space in downtown Meaford for his soap-making business.

Mark Lewis, who plans to start a business brewing and selling craft beer in Meaford didn’t receive any cash pledges from the Dragons. But he was voted this year’s Audience Choice Award winner, so he won about $2,000.

This year’s Dragons Den event played to a nearly full house at Meaford Hall. Meaford Chamber of Commerce, the Dragons and sponsors awarded almost $30,000 in cash and prizes.
