Realtors Unhappy With Proposed Municipal Act Changes

The Huron Perth Association of Realtors is weighing in on a media report outlining the provincial government's plan to amend the Municipal Act.

The change would allow all municipalities to set their own municipal land transfer tax rates.

Sue Fowler is the Provincial Political Affairs Representative for the Huron Perth Association of Realtors and says this will have a negative impact on both home buyers and the local economy.

Fowler says changing the Municipal Act by adding another Land Transfer Tax is not the way to go about raising tax dollars as homeowners already have to pay enough as it is.

Fowler says the addition of another land transfer tax could take away the dream of home ownership for many potential homebuyers, especially lower to middle income individuals.
