Veterans Honoured in Owen Sound

Owen Sound's Billy Bishop Museum paid tribute to those who served in the Canadian Armed Forces with the 15th annual Honouring our Local Veterans ceremony.

Ten veterans were recognized Sunday in front of a crowd at the Royal Canadian Legion in Owen Sound.

Among them, Russell Harvey who served with the Canadian Armoured Corps in World War Two.

For him the ceremony brought back memories.

"Something like this it kinda gets you thinking back, y'know, some of the things that happened. Some were funny and some weren't," said Russell Harvey after the ceremony.

Most of the veterans served in World War Two but veteran Robert Griffith, who joined the Armed forces in 1959, was among the honourees.

"It's a great honour to be here and looking down the line when I was born most of these guys were knee deep in mud in Europe someplace so I feel it's really an honour."

Over the 15 years, the Billy Bishop Museum has honoured close to 150 local veterans.

Others recognized this year are: Howard Armstrong,  Ronald Coates,  Jack Gross,  Eugene Harrison,  Jack Sargent,  Ross Leigh,  Antonio Pennacchietti and Robert Sear.
