A new group called Engage Huron is hoping to make life better for the twenty to thirty-year-old who have decided to make Huron County their home.
Chair Genny Smith explains young people often leave Huron County for post-secondary education and many of them don't come back, so there is a clear need to find something that will keep young people here.
Smith adds they are not attempting to create more jobs in Huron but to help connect young people with job opportunities that already exist in the county.
Smith points out Huron County has knowledge-based and high-tech businesses and one of their goals is connect people with that type of training with jobs.
"We have great infrastructure here that we can help technology and knowledge based businesses, if it's a home business we're able to help that," says Smith, adding,"we're not in the business of creating jobs but we're into supporting businesses here that may be looking and then we can possibly help connect them."
Smith adds they're just getting started and have now completed their terms of reference so they know who they are and who they want to target and they're now looking for funding for an administrator and promotions person.
"We've just completed our terms of reference so now we know who we are, what we're all about and what we're targeting so the next steps are we're looking for funding to possibly hire an admin coordinator part time to create a strategic plan and to do a lot of our admin work, and connecting and creating networking events," notes Smith.
